It doesn’t get easier. On the anniversary of your passing, I miss you more than ever. You were the most important person in my life and I will continue to think about you every day and remember all of the joy you brought to my life. I will always love you Mother.

There are so many memories. A life time of them. I’m sorry for all the memories I missed because of the tragedy in my life coming to Houston was painful.  Now I can’t get that time back..... it’s gone forever. But my mother was always there for me when I needed her. We had some fun trips as a family. And later we had some fun trips to Vegas where we would all come from our seperate locations and have a fun few days together. I loved her and was happy to spend the last few months with her as often as I could. She will be missed


A TOAST TO MY MOTHER-IN-LAW

Mary Ann used to tell me: look for your favorite Mother-in-Law with the biggest smile. 

She always made me feel a part of the Jones Family.

Today, after almost 40 years, no more smiles, no more hugs. 

Mary Ann, I already miss you terrible, but you will always be in my heart and I will always remember your smile.

I would like to thank all of you for the friendships you have extended to Mary Ann, to Nancy and to Linda, for so many years and, especially, over the last difficult months.

Thank you also for being here today, to celebrate Mary Ann, my loving Mother-in-Law and her wonderful life.

Mary Ann Dupree Jones, born on September 15, 1928 to Mother, Julia Trauernicht Dupree and Father, Leon Lamar Dupree, Sr. passed away on December 4, 2018 at the age of 90. Mary Ann grew up in the Heights area of Houston, Texas. She attended Reagan High School and, upon graduation, went to work for Gulf Oil Corporation where she met her Husband of 53 years, Howard W. Jones.  Mary Ann was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Cousin, Aunt and Friend to many. After the birth of her first child, Nancy, she chose to be a full time Wife and Mother, a role that she cherished throughout her life. Mary Ann was active in her children’s activities and always volunteered her services to support her children. She loved being a Room Mother over the years. After her daughter, Linda, entered University in September 1969, Mary Ann decided to return to work and was employed by the Gulf Oil Corporation Federal Credit Union. In this role, Mary Ann helped many people and was well recognized for her good work. She was even, at one time, offered the role of President of the Credit Union, but preferred to continue her work, offering assistance to the many employees of Gulf.  She is survived by her Daughter, Nancy Schmidt, Son-in-Law, Bill Schmidt, Daughter, Linda Kocher, Son-in-Law, Jurg and by her Grandson, Charles Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Howard and Robert William Schmidt, her beloved Grandson. 




Mary Ann was a wonderful neighbor, friend, confidante and, as others have confirmed, adopted grandmother. Her birthday parties were always the most fun and her sense of humor the greatest medicine! I was lucky to have many hours of her undivided attention these past months along with a few long lunches at our favorite places. Condolences to her family, who I know will miss her so very much. She spoke often of the love and pride she had for you. Here is a picture from her 85th birthday celebration.

We are deeply saddened by the news of your mother, Mary Ann, passing. Our heartfelt condolences.

We wish you, your sister Nancy and families positivity and lots of courage in this very difficult time.

As the dark and heavy clouds pass by, you will remember of so many sunny and fantastic moments you spent with your adorable mother over the course of her long lasting life. We are thinking about you.

Memories of Linda’s 50th in New Orleans

I would like to share a story about one very special person,  Mary Ann Jones.  
I met Linda and her incredible family when I was 24 years old. I lived in Houston and my family and friends all lived in Arizona.
 
A few years later I was going through a very hard time in my life at 27 years old; my husband who played for the Houston Aeros, had been traded to Phoenix, Arizona.  He had been gone for several months and I was packing up our home by myself.  The movers were coming in the morning and I was far from finished.  Mary Ann called me to see how things were going with my move.  I said everything was fine (and of course it wasn’t). Mary Ann sensed my stress and frustration; we  got ready to hang the phone up and she said “Honey, don’t work too hard”.

As I got off the phone tears were streaming down my face. I was exhausted, trying to get everything done.  About 1 hour had passed; there was a knock on my door. I opened the door and there was Mary Ann and Howard standing there.  I couldn’t believe my eyes- they lived one hour away from me! With a smile on her face, she said “I think you can use another set of hands”.  They stayed and helped me pack until I was completely finished. When they left, I sat in the middle of the floor with 50 boxes around me and prayed, thanking God for the Jones and for sending them into my life. 

She was my savior. 

I have been very privileged to have called Mary Ann Jones my friend, my “other Mother,” my confidant, my savior!   She was always in my corner and that I could always depend on.  We have laughed together and cried together, shared many fabulous recipes together. In my life she can never be replaced.  I will miss all of the golden nuggets of wisdom and her beautiful brown shining eyes of kindness. She was one in a trillion. I thank her and her wonderful family for allowing me to be a small part of their life.

This is a tough time for Mary Ann’s family. She is the sun around which the family orbited. She will be enormously  missed.
Nancy, Linda. Chuck, Jurg and I are buoyed by the love and support of all our friends.

What can I say, she was my Grandmother as well... I'll never forget having to report (who, what,when, where) to her  and Grandmother Murray.  
But, oh what fun we had from lunches to shopping, those two wore me out!  I really adore your family. Mrs.  Jones was the funniest and sweetest friend.  I am so grateful to have had her and ya'll in my life.  She is always in my heart.  Much Love and Prayers. 
She is now really watching all of us with Grandmother Murray.  - Put some lipstick on!

We were so very sorry to hear the sad news of the passing away of your dear mother.
Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
May all the wonderful memories you have shared with your mother live in your heart forever and help you through this sad time of separation.
We were very fortunate to have met Mary Ann during a few of her visits to Switzerland and we will always remember her as a very fine and kind Lady. May she rest in peace.

Nous nous sommes vues peu de temps mais je me souviens combien elle était attachante. Il est toujours trop tôt de perdre sa maman. C'est un pilier de la vie qui s'en va. Je sais combien tu l'aimais. To Mary Ann's family, I am so sorry for your loss.  I know that you will miss her terribly. I will miss her,  too.  Mary Ann was such a dear, sweet, and loving person.  Even as her health declined, she focused on others and what she could do to help them; I found that so inspiring.  She was the personification of grace and  loving kindness and the world was a better place because she was in it.   I am so glad that we were friends and I cherish the memories of the times we spent together. Rest in peace, Mary Ann.

I so loved your dear mom. We spent more time together in the last few years than throughout my younger life. She was a dear and caring friend. I felt so lucky to get to know her better. She was a very strong and delightful soul. She will be missed.

Mary Ann was like a mom to me.  A very special lady to my family.  She will never be forgotten.  She will live on in our memories and our hearts forever.

Mary Ann was such a beautiful, kind, interesting, funny and special friend and we will miss her.
