She grew up in Green Lake, Texas where she met William H. Day (Bill), fell in love and they married. Marlene and Bill moved to Houston in 1952 and had two children, Cherry Garmannslund and David H. Day.
They had numerous true lifelong friends and neighbors throughout the years. Marlene devoted most all her time to raising the children while they were young. Later on she worked briefly as a realtor, but most of her professional career as personnel manager for Joske’s Department store. She volunteered her time at Houston Northwest Medical Center Hospital and to the Alley theater as an usher. Marlene was always family-focused and never missed an opportunity to have the children and grandchildren together for a meal.
Marlene is predeceased by her husband Bill and sister Delores. She is survived by children: Cherry and David and wife Susie; 4 grandchildren – Ben Day, Janica Boles and husband Matt, Brandon Day, and Tor Day and wife Kaitlyn; 2 step grandchildren – Sara Prasatik and husband Josh, John McPherson and wife Amy; 10 great-grandchildren – Parker and Bailey Boles, and Karli, Roman, Adleigh, Dottie, Grayson, Benji, Everett and Calvin Day; 8 step great-grandchildren – Riley Cleary, June, Graham and Thomas Prasatik, and Brooks, Max, Wesley, and Henry McPherson; and nephew Craig Davis and wife Jennifer, and nieces Jena Westfall and husband Wes, and Tanya Trahan and husband John.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am. Committal services will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery followed by a reception in the event room of the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Benjamin Day, Brandon Day, Tor Day, Matt Boles, Parker Boles and David Day.
