Margie Lee Frank Martin

Margie Lee Frank Martin, born February 26, 1924, in Bokchita, Oklahoma, to Louis Alfred and Essie Mae Frank, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a courageous, positive, faith driven battle with cancer as she joyfully and gracefully entered God’s Kingdom of Heaven.

Margie worked at the Army Ordinance Depot during World War II in Texarkana, Texas, where she met and married the love of her life, William C. “Dub” Martin, in 1947. They moved to Houston, in the Spring Branch area, in 1960, where Margie became very active in serving her community through PTA/PTO in SBISD, Royal Oaks Garden Club, Royal Oaks Civic Association, Boy/Girl Scouts and worked at the polls as an election official for many local, county, state and national elections.

Margie also enjoyed working with her daughter, Marilyn, buying and selling beautiful antiques in Marilyn’s Antique Shoppe. Margie was extremely active in her beloved Fair Haven United Methodist Church, where she served as Altar Guild Chair Woman for 40+ years. She was a member of The Explorers Sunday School Class. Margie served as a highly respected officer and highly valued chairwoman/member of numerous committees in both the Royal Oaks Civic Association and Royal Oaks Garden Club, since the early 1960’s. She was a recipient of the distinguished STAR AWARD and was named Woman of the Year by the Royal Oaks Garden Club in 1965-66.

Margie is preceded in death by her husband, William C. “Dub” Martin; daughter, Marilyn Martin; parents, Louis Alfred and Essie Mae Frank; brothers, Charles Paul and Louis Elmer Frank. She is survived by her son, William C. “Bill” Martin; granddaughter Tammy and husband, Billy Luxton; step granddaughter, Molly Hammer; two great grandsons Justin Allen and wife, Katelyn, and William Dillan Luxton; three great-great granddaughters Avery, Addilyn and Annistyn Luxton; sisters Lena Frank Williamson, Joyce Frank Lynn and Joan Frank Sauer and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Pallbearers will be nephews Gary Williamson, Chip and Paul Sauer, Jimmy Lynn and great grandsons Justin Allen and William Dillan Luxton. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of The Explorers Sunday School Class at Fair Haven Methodist Church and members of the Royal Oaks Garden Club.

Funeral services were conducted by beloved pastor and friend, Reverend Robert “Bob” Luton, on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the sanctuary of Fair Haven United Methodist Church, 1330 Gessner in Houston. Interment followed at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, also in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, which we all know Margie Martin loved dearly, she and the family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions being made to Fair Haven United Methodist Church Gardens.

Margie and her family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff of Kindred at Home Hospice, especially Lina and Rosa.
