1910-2015
Margaret Melsome “Peggie” Forgan, dearly beloved wife of the late Glenn Macmillan Forgan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 27th of January 2015. Peggie was born the 20th of September 1910, in Warrenton, Virginia to the late Walter William Melsome of Norton, Wilts, England and Margaret Enfield of Johnston, Pennsylvania. She lived for many years in Winnetka, Illinois before moving to Houston in 1963.
She leaves a son, Glenn Macmillan Forgan, Jr. and wife Glenda Hodges Forgan of Austin, Texas and a daughter Lisa Forgan DeWitts of Houston, a nephew the late Major General David W. Forgan, USAF (Ret) and wife Shirley, their sons Bruce and Todd, and great-grandnephews Spencer and Jacob. Step-granddaughter Lenee Allen Bennett and husband Donald, great grandchildren Nicole and Jonathan.
Peggie was an Honorary Board Member and former President and Treasurer of the Arden Shore Home for Boys in Lake Bluff, Illinois, a docent at Bayou Bend, a guide at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts; a board member at Holly Hall Home, and President of the River Oaks Country Club Women’s’ Gulf Association and a member of the Henry Thad Rogers Society of Northwestern University.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and other caregivers at the Hallmark Health Care Center and Hospice Compassus who treated her with such respect, love and kindness.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 6th of February, in the chapel of the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Douglas W. Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, officiating. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the parlor.
At a later date, the family will gather for a private inurnment at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to St. James House, 5800 West Baker Road, Baytown, TX, 77520; or to the charity of one’s choice.
