Margaret Ellen (Nelson) Calzada, affectionately known as “Maggie”, went to be with Jesus on August 13, 2021. She was surrounded by family who sang to her, prayed with her, loved on her, and held her as she went peacefully to Heaven. Margaret was born August 31, 1952, in Corpus Christi to Barnet Hardin Nelson and Myrel Deen (Nelson) Peck. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Milby High School in 1971. Margaret retired from QWLC in 2017 after a successful 26-year career where she was an Executive Administrative Manager. She was well respected and made many close friends along the way. Margaret had 3 sons, Joseph, Jason, and Nathan along with many grandchildren. She was very close to her 5 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, Barnet Nelson and Myrel Peck, stepfather – John Peck, her brother Lamar Nelson and sister Mary, and sister Dolly Walker and husband Bill. She is survived by her brother Pat Nelson and wife Frances, Sister Shirley Garza and husband Edward, Sister Freda McClelland, and husband Mack as well as many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. She spent her final weeks with nieces - Angela and Jen Berrospe as well as their children Gavin, Beau, Ava & Aracella as they took care of her and made lasting loving memories together. Margaret was very close to her sisters Shirley and Freda and enjoyed all the time they spent together. They were truly best friends along with being close sisters and their bond shall live on with Margaret watching over them. A natural athlete, a strong Leader, and a determined independent woman, she was a lover of all pets and passionate about her cats. She was especially fond of 2 cats, Shadow and Piney. She donated to several organizations in Houston for pet rescue groups as well as Cancer Research. Margaret made a lasting impression on everyone she met, and her legacy will live on. She will be missed so much but we know she is in the arms of God who welcomed her home with those sweet words, “Well done thy good and faithful servant. You have fought a good fight; you have finished the race!” Margaret was not a fan of funerals, so instead we will Celebrate her life! Please join us on September 7, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. at Community of Faith Church at 16124 Becker Road, Hockley, Texas 77447 for a celebration to honor her. We welcome stories, photos and will have a special prayer in her honor. Please wear Red as that was her favorite color! In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you make donations that evening to the Houston SPCA in memory of Margaret Calzada where we will forever memorialize her name at a place that was very special to her. She is Forever Loved and Forever in our Hearts!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkLawndaleFH.com for the Calzada family.
