She met Rev. Joe Cantu in Laredo, Texas and married on July 25, 1953.
In the ministry as Pastor’s wife since the age of 18. She served as Women’s Ministry President for 50 years at El Tabernaculo Assemblies of God, where they pastored for 53 years. Her family and friends knew her as Maya. She loved serving and caring for people. She loved music and signing hymnals and coritos. She loved her family and was a great example as a Godly women and prayer warrior.
Magdalena is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Rev. Joe Cantu; parents, Rev. Severiano and Velia Menchaca; son, Leroy M. Cantu; son in law, R. May Torres; brother, Ismael Menchaca; sister, Elizabeth Salazar; and brother in law, Rev. Joe Salazar.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Ruth Cantu, Dahlia C. Torres and Yvonne Espinosa; grandchildren Michael Torres, Sean Torres wife Nickii, Joel Torres wife Vivian, Erik Torres wife Sally; Valerie Knowles, Veronica husband Alexis Mondragon; Christina Espinosa and Elias Espinosa; great-grandchildren, Tarah, Alyanna, Tessa, Tanya, Tatiana, Camila and Daniella; sister, Linda Treviño husband Marco; brothers, Severiano Menchaca wife Mary, Ezequiel Menchaca wife Jan, Ernesto Menchaca wife Carol, Noel Menchaca wife Kathleen; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Torres, Sean Torres, Joel Torres, Erik Torres Elias Espinosa and Alexis Mondragon
A visitation for Magdalena will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at El Tabernaculo, 10020 Bauman Rd., Houston, TX 77076. A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at El Tabernaculo with a graveside service to follow at Brookside Memorial Park
