Truly a woman of grace, Yvonne’s loving spirit, warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Yvonne was born in Sour Lake, Texas on January 16, 1928 to William Addison and Vera Ann Reeves. She graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where she met and married her husband Hilton Dewey Scott. They raised three children, Gary, Sue and Jeffrey in the Oak Forest area of Houston, Texas.
Yvonne and her family were active members of St. Stephens. She loved her church family and most of her closest friends came from that fellowship. She was honored to be one of the first groups of pre-school teachers when Robert A. Johnson Memorial School for little children was established in 1967. She taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday school and was a member of the Solitaires and the United Methodist Women. Her gift for music was a source of joy for her and she played the piano for her Sunday school class. She enjoyed reading, music, and playing with her cat “Bitty”, and enjoyed many years of friendship with the Lions/Lioness Club and 42 group. She loved being with her family and the light of her life in recent years were her great-grandchildren.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Dewey Scott; son, Hilton Gary Scott; her loving parents, William Addison and Vera Ann Reeves; brother, William Ray Reeves; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Admiral Dewey and Lillian Beatrice Scott.
Yvonne lived a full and rich life with no expressed regrets. Among those who love and will miss her are her children, Sue Scott Alford, and Jeffrey Scott; grandchildren, Travis Alford, Taylor Alford and wife, Anna Alford; and great grandchildren, Jackson, Mila, and a baby brother due in October.
In her final year, she was under the care of the staff of Vosswood Nursing Center, who the family gratefully acknowledges for their help.
A Memorial Service Celebrating the Life of Yvonne will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm, at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 2003 West 43rd Street, Houston Texas 77018. A private family burial will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Thursday morning.
