On January 8, 1930, in Houston, Texas, Willis James Edwards Sr. and Lucille Harriett Edwards welcomed their fourth child, a baby girl they lovingly named Mae Joyce Edwards.
Mae accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in the West End where she was a faithful member and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Mae attended school in the Houston Independent School District. Harper Elementary and attended Booker T. Washington High School.
She united in holy matrimony with Lawrence Milton Bostick Sr. and to that union six children were born. Lawrence Jr., Rita, Gilda, Randy, Patrice, and Eric Carl.
Mae attended nursing school, where she earned a certificate in practical nursing. She found great fulfillment in her career in the healthcare industry.
Mae was a devout woman of faith, cherished as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She became a dedicated member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the various roles, Mission II, Mass Choir, Sunshine Band, The Ladies Guild and Deaconess. She was also a proud member of the Calanthe Historical Society #354.
Later in life, she remarried Eddie Smith and they remained until he preceded her in death.
On November 28, 2024, at 6:00 PM, Mae peacefully answered the call to be with her Lord and Savior, claiming her place within the heavenly gates. She was preceded in death by one son Eric Carl Bostick, one grandson Damon Wilkins, her parents, Willis and Lucille Edwards, as well as her brothers, Willis “Bebop” Edwards, Chester Edwards, William Edwards, Donald Gene Edwards and one and only sister Faye Loyce Cook.
To cherish her precious memories, she leaves her five children, Lawrence Milton Bostick Jr., Rita Bostick Young (Ira Lee), Gilda Bostick Wimbley, Randy Kirk Bostick and Patrice Bostick Arrington. Thirteen Grandchildren, Cassius Williams (Desi), Sonya Early (Parrish), Rachael Bostick, Erika Bostick-Maddison (Cecil), Josh DeAndre’ Porter (Jennifer), De’Mon Wilkins (Collette), Tina Denise Stewart, Denwitt “Denny” Zack Williams, Jr. (Charlotte), Jasmon J. McCoy, Kerissa Arrington Jessie (Willer), Lawrence Bostick Reese (Lauren), and Kegan Arrington. Twenty Great-Grandchildren, Eight Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
