Viewing will be held from 4-8 pm on Saturday, 21 December, 2024 at Garden Oaks Funeral Home & Crematory (13430 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77083).

Requiem Mass will be held at 1:00 on Monday, 23 December, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (12627 West Bellfort, Sugar Land 77478).

Mama Luz, as she was called by many, was born in Tabogon, Cebu, Philippines to parents Epifania and Pantaleon on 6 December, 1930. She joins her husband, Benjamin Kalu, who passed before her.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Benjamin and Daisy, Roy and Victoria, Lucille and Al, Liza and Jose, Saad and Grace, Sol, Alon and Leizl, and Amihan and Frank; grandchildren Johann, Cyre, Kathleen, Camille, Brenon, Tiffany, Monique, and Alon Jr; and great-grandchildren Matthew, Joy, Sophie, Benjamin, Judah, Jack, and Madden.

Mama Luz was a lifelong traveler, an accomplished nurse, and a social butterfly. She remained active in the Catholic community and enjoyed mah jong, bingo, and karaoke. She loved scoping out garage sales and collecting figurines, especially elephants.

The Kalu family acknowledges with profound appreciation any personal kindnesses, thoughts and other expressions of love and sympathy during their hours of bereavement.
