She was born Aug. 20, 1949 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Lucy is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Santos Cantera Sr.; mother, Amelia Lopez, and father, Daniel Esparza, and his wife, Augustina Esparza; one brother, Augustin Esparza; one sister, Rosita Esparza Jaramillo; and two grandchildren, Jordan Kaeln Cantera and Jordan David Cantera.
Lucy is survived by her children, Michelle Lujan Salas, Mercy Verdejo (Angel), Lydia Cantera, Santos Cantera Jr., Marcus Cantera (Rosalind), and David Cantera (Gloria); grandchildren, Norma Lujan-Anglin (Ethan), Jennifer Villalobos (Craig), Michael Salas, Meagan Verdejo, Amaris Peña, Jaelyn Peña, Julissa Cantera (Bernardo), Breana Hernandez, Evelyn Hernandez, Marcus Andru Cantera (Niki), Kiieren Cantera, Amery Cantera, Dylan Pineda, Elanor Mendez, Leonor Mendez, Draven Cantera, Ember Cantera; great-grandchildren, Joziah Lujan (Melany), Malachi Reyes (Diana), LeLani Reyes (Nehemiah), Isaac Reyes, Anthony Villalobos, Renesmee Cantera-Huerta, Aria Cantera-Huerta, Mateo Cantera-Huerta, Maesyn Cantera, Marcus Aurelius Cantera, Milo Cantera; and one great-great-grandchild, Raylenn Lujan.
She is also survived by her siblings, Daniel Esparza Jr. (Gloria), Henry Esparza, Elias Esparza (Olga), Edward Esparza (Marta) and Ernest Esparza.
Lucy enjoyed working through crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking shows and really loved the game show, “Family Feud.” Her all-time favorite treat were Werther’s Original caramel hard candies.
She enjoyed being around her family and lit up a room with her infectious smile and laugh. And she was most known for blaming everything on “Mikey.”
