Louis moved with his mother to Houston, TX at an early age. As a young teen, he moved to Conroe, TX and lived with his Uncle George and Aunt Gussie Bell along with their two daughters, Lena Faye and Joan. He fondly considered Lena Faye and Joan as his two adopted sisters. Louis worked with his Uncle George logging with mules and loved telling the stories.
Louis met Roberta J. Meloy and married on June 20, 1952. They were married 58 years. Louis is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Barrett and brother Eliga Marlin Barrett. Louis is survived by daughters, Markey Howell and husband Lee and Shanna Nowlin and husband Jim. Brother, Victor Barrett, sister Deborah Cotton and husband Reggie. Grandchildren, Amber Howell, Lindsay Simms, Jeremy Clinton and wife Kim, Sean Clinton. Great grandchildren, Kailee Howell, Kaden Dean, Grace Simms.
Louis loved telling his stories about driving “big rigs”. He began his career at Hughes Tool Company where he worked for five years and moved on to North Side Ready Mix Concrete for nine years. Louis then went to work for Central Freight Lines for the next 26 years and was so proud of his safe driving record and career with Central.
Louis was a 54-year member of Lindale Park Masonic Lodge #1347 and a Scottish Rite member of which he was equally proud of. Louis was also a 25-plus year member with The Aldine Chapter #1088 Order of the Eastern Star.
Louis was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on cars.
