The year was 1938. Franklin D Roosevelt was President. Gasoline was 10 cent per gallon. You could purchase a brand new car for $763 and a new home for $3,900. Minimum wage was 25 cent an hour and the average annual income was $1730. In that same year Mama Lillie was born, Lillie Mae Littleton on Saturday, September 3rd. She was born to the late Brady and Dimple Littleton. Exactly one year and 5 days later she was joined by a sister, Annie Mae. The two sisters would prove to be inseparable. Mama Lillie started playing piano when she was very young, continuing the music tradition of her father Mr. Brady (as he was called by most). He played the bass guitar for a local band. Having accepted Christ at an early age, she was soon playing the piano and organ for several churches. Mama Lillie accepted the call to duty in 1956 from the Community Baptist Church, of Acres Home as Choir Director by Rev. E. L. Edwards Sr. She was a member of Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, and Providence Missionary Baptist Church, before uniting with Brookhollow, " The Church Without Walls", where she has been a faithful member since 1992. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School of Houston, Texas in 1956. Continuing her music ministry, she discovered a personal life purpose in the gift of encouragement through music. Mama Lillie was not ashamed to praise God in word or in song. She received her Bachelor's Degree in 1981 with a major in Social Work, and a minor in Psychology at Prairie View A&M University. She was a founding member of PBWE (Professional Black Women's Enterprise), where she served on the Executive Board and as The Organization's Chaplain. She was a gifted prayer warrior, and encourager. Mama Lillie was possessed with an entrepreneurial spirit. She was not inclined to work for others and was constantly scouting for greater business opportunities. Like her mother before her she would set up her own home based business. In 1962, she fell in love with a young man by the name of Joe Namon Veasley at the age of 23. They were married on August 21, 1963. He preceded her in death in 1990. Mama Lillie gave birth to five beautiful children. They are: her oldest daughter, Donna Brooks Bond, daughter, Louis Ann Edwards also known as "Sann," her son, Joe Namon Veasley Jr., daughter, Jacqueline Veasley-Davis, also known as "World Famous" (Royal Davis), and her youngest daughter who preceded her in death in the year of 1966, Twyla Annette Veasley. She was also given two "God Children," Sylvester Turner, and LaDale Toombs Phillips. Her God Children, who would prove to be very instrumental in their adult years and partner with Mama Lillie and fulfill two additional life purposes of prayer ministry, and entrepreneurial empowerment. Mama Lillie has five grand-children: Deloris Bond-Smith (Quency Smith), Robert Davis Sr., Jelessa Robinson, Joenea Veasley and Joseph Edwards Jr. She also has six great grand-children: Isaiah Smith, Savannah Smith, Twylah Smith, Kalicia Walker, Robert Davis Jr., and youngest Chloe Walker. On Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 7:00pm surrounded by family, Mama Lillie answered the voice of Jesus leaving behind earth's labor to gain Heaven's reward. Most of us who truly knew and loved Mama Lillie will agree that one of her greatest accomplishments was her unwavering love of God and man. She served the Lord faithfully and she also supported the dreams and goals of anyone God placed in her path. The family chain has been broken, but you left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide, and although we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Mama Lillie you will be dearly missed!!!
