Ms. Lillie Marie Sherman was born to the late Herman Wallace and Earlean Jones on October 11, 1955 in Crew Lake, Louisiana. She was raised in Monroe, Louisiana with her mom and who she referred to as dad, the late Aaron Jones. With the passing of her mom at an early age, she took over raising her sister and four of her brothers. She moved to Houston from Monroe, Louisiana in the late 1980s to raise her three daughters Cassandra Block, LaTrina Block, and Tomeka Sherman. She spent most of her working years in the food service industry and worked as a cook for over a decade at Strake Jesuit College Prepartory school. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when needed. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community. Lillie devoted her life caring for others. She raised her siblings after her mother’s passing, along with her three children, and then raised her niece, Semon Jones and two nephews, Aaron and Kacey Jones along with her granddaughter, Keyaira Block. Upon her passing she was raising her great-niece Madison Jones.
Lillie was a faithful member of Helping Hands Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Paul E. Giddings. She spent many years as the head of the youth department as well as a member in the mission department. She also sang in the choir. She loved the Lord and was devoted servant to God while living.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents: Aaron Jones and Earlean Jones; brothers: Aaron Jones Jr., Jeffery Jones, Willie Jones and Otis Jones; sister: Arlean Jones; nieces: Ebony Jones and Lisa Smith; and Nephew: Ray Jones, Jr.
Lillie was affectionately referred to as Granny, Nana, Auntie, and Mama Sherman by extended family and friends. She transitioned from this earthly home on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in Houston, TX at Methodist Hospital-Sugarland. She leaves to mourn her passing three beautiful daughters: Cassandra Block, Latrina Block and Tomeka Sherman of Houston, TX; granddaughter Keyaira Block; great-grandson Kaiden Jackson; sisters: Lynette Jones, Johnnie Weathersby (Charles) of Monroe, LA, Lena Smith, Shirley Scott and Burnse Staten all of Houston, TX; brothers: Ray Jones (Doris), Melvin Jones and John Jones of Houston, TX, Thomas Jones (Pamela) and Clyde Jones of Monroe, LA; sister-in-law Lorraine Jones; close friends: Mary Webb and Lois Lockhart; great-niece Madison Jones; nieces: Semon and Shelia Jones; nephews: Aaron and Kacey Jones, god-daughter: Indya Lambert; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
