Leona J. (Knapik) Hanus, born March 18, 1930 to Stanislaus and Pearl Knapik in Bremond, Texas, passed away July 19, 2016 in Houston Texas. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Bennie, her parents, brother Leonard, sisters Sophie Gamble and Louise Knapik. She is survived by her son David and wife Julie, son John, son Larry and wife Debbie, son Bernie and wife Brandy; daughter Stephanie Zicherman and husband Zeke; brother Rex Knapik and grandchildren Megan, Michael, James, Will, Ann Marie, Nolan and Aiden. Leona was the valedictorian of her high school class in Bremond, TX. She worked for Sears before she married Bennie in 1961 and became a devoted wife and mother. She raised her children in the Catholic faith bringing them together often to pray a litany or the rosary especially in the Marian months of May and October. She loved to pray the Rosary and was rarely without one in her hands. She was an active member of St. Ambrose parish for over 40 years. Leona loved to dance and she and Bennie were known for their graceful waltzing abilities. The family will receive friends from 5pm – 8pm, Thursday, July 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home, were a Rosary and vigil service will begin at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be 10 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4213 Mangum Road, Houston, TX 77092 with visitation starting at 9 am. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Houston, TX.
