Leo was born in High Hill, Texas to Hugo Sr. and Pauline Hollas on September 14, 1943. He graduated from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg, Texas in 1961, and played baseball in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for two years. He married Rose Mensik on June 27, 1964, in Schulenburg. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He worked in construction for 45 years. He was an avid sports fan and loved his country home working on his tractor. Above all, he loved his God and his family, and took pride in attending as many of his children’s and grandchildren’s games and programs as possible. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Houston for 54 years, where he was active in the Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Hugo Jr.
Leo is survived by his wife, children Chuck (Karen) Hollas, Greg (Martha) Hollas, Jane (John) Malkowsky, and Brad (Sarah) Hollas, grandchildren Jacob, Kendall, Luke, Kayla, Nicholas, Clayton, Travis, Austin, Evan, Audrey, Ryan, and Claire, and brothers Alvin, Armand, Robert, Winfred, and Richard.
Visitation will be at 5:00 PM, July 24, 2020, at Pat H. Foley funeral home, with Rosary at 7:00 PM.
Funeral mass will be held July 25, 2020, at 9:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Houston. Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Cemetery in Schulenburg at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima (Houston) Faith in Action or a charity of your choice.
