Laura Jean Jeanes

Laura Jean Jeanes, was born on January 29, 1931 to Newlin Edward and Muriel Ethel Lewis at Baptist Hospital, Houston, TX. She preferred to go by her middle name, Jean. She passed away May 31, 2014 at the age of 83. She was married to Paul Marshall Jeanes and is survived by her children, Pamela Jeanes and John Jeanes; her grandchildren, Shawn Boiles and wife Michelle, Tandra Stephens and husband Kevin; and her great-grandchildren Brandon, Emily and Davin. She is a graduate of Charles H Milby High School and achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Administration from the University of Houston. She completed her 41 year career in education with H.I.S.D. as principal of Golfcrest Elementary for 18 years. She was a dedicated member of the Park Place United Methodist Church for over 35 years; was teacher of her Sunday school class and loved to sing in the church choir. After retirement from H.I.S.D, she immensely enjoyed her time with children in serving as director of the Mother’s Day Out program. She carried God’s grace with her in all she did. Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St. Visitation will be from 5-9 on Friday with funeral services on Saturday at 10am.
