It is with the greatest of sorrows that we announce that Laura Catherine Davidson Fowell, while surrounded by loved ones, passed on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Born on October 14, 1978, in Houston, Texas, Laura was 42 years old.
Laura attended Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, and graduated from St. Agnes Academy of Houston in 1996, being the recipient of the St. Agnes Award. She then spent four years cheering on her Longhorns and graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies in 2000. Choosing to follow in her father’s footsteps as an attorney, Laura attended South Texas College of Law, where she would meet her future husband, Jason Lee Fowell.
Laura put her heart and soul into everything she did, and spent endless hours training at the law school’s nationally recognized advocacy program and traveled the country competing on the school’s behalf.
After graduating law school in 2003, Laura took her trial skills and served as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, where she carried out justice while being respected by both sides of the bar. Laura’s practice matched her dreams when, in 2007, she decided to join her father in the private practice of law, where she focused on probate and family matters.
Forever the teacher and student of advocacy, Laura continued to volunteer at the law school, where she not only coached within the advocacy program, but served as an Adjunct Professor teaching litigation and trial skills. Laura also served as an Instructor with Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Education Paralegal Certification Program and also served as an instructor for the Certified Financial Planner Certification Education Program.
On January 17, 2004, Laura married her best friend, Jason Lee Fowell, where they eventually settled in Cypress, Texas. In between a full-time practice of law, working together at the law school, and living life to the fullest, they welcomed their twins, Colin Thomas and Emma Marie in October of 2008. They were then blessed with Grace Leigh in 2013, when Laura retired from the practice of law and became a full-time super mom, concentrating all her efforts on the family.
Laura was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Mothers of Multiples, the Children and Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Children and Daughters of the American Revolution and the recipient of countless awards.
After having been diagnosed with a brain tumor in December of 2017, Laura courageously battled the disease for over three and half years with the same reverent effort and spirit that she placed into everything in her life. Despite Laura’s heroic efforts, she succumbed to the disease, sustained by her Catholic Faith and loving family and friends.
Laura enjoyed traveling with her family, music, piano and voice, and volunteering at her children’s school. Laura lit up every room with her infectious smile and wonderful attitude, and truly appreciated each moment of her life. Though an only child, she gathered her sisters in life and was a friend to everyone she met. While our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her spirit with the fondest of memories.
A seventh-generation Texan, she is survived by her husband, Jason Lee Fowell, son Colin Thomas, daughters Emma Marie and Grace Leigh, mother and father Rose Marie and Joe Riley Davidson, her in-laws, Maru and Richard Fowell, and brother-in-law and his wife, Jordan and Aline Fowell, and she will be missed by many more.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam Street, celebrated
by Fr. Juan Torres, O.P., at 10:00 a.m., on August 27, 2021.
