On July 4th 2022 just as the sun was setting, Larry Edward Davis skipped through the gates of Heaven to join his bride. So many of us will miss that grin and contagious chuckle that almost always followed.
Larry was born on November 15th 1949 in Ganado Texas. He was the oldest of five children born to Loriene and John Edward Davis. He enjoyed fishing with his brother and playing practical jokes on his sisters. Life was simple, life was sweet. Through grade school he enjoyed sports and believe it or not, Larry sang in the choir. It was on the way home from a concert when he unknowingly gave his last wave to his mother as they headed out for a night of dancing and never made it home. A tragic car accident killed his sweet Mama hospitalized his father for months. Now a senior in high school, Larry became the man of the house. His first task as man of the house was to explain to his five year old baby sister what had happened. He simply told her the ‘Mom is gone. The angels came last night to take her to heaven.’ After graduating high school Larry and getting his siblings in order as best he could, Larry joined the US ARMY where he was stationed in Germany and proudly served our country.
During those late high school years Larry had a best friend named Patricia. Soon after returning from the ARMY Larry and Patty married on July 8, 1972. They were married for 45 years and built a wonderful life and have an amazing family. Family was the foundation of Larry’s life.
A few short years later, tragedy struck the Davis family once again when Larry’s brother was killed in a motorcycle accident. Larry was devasted; his confidant, hunting and fishing buddy was gone. Larry did what Larry does, he continued to serve. He continued to work hard. He continued to take care of everyone.
Larry’s career spanned over 46 years with the same company. REED Hycalog changed names several times, as well as locations, yet a few extremely loyal people inside were there for it all. Larry was that overly loyal employee who could always be counted on. No matter what happened in life, Larry always showed up and was never afraid of a hard days work. In 2015 Larry finally retired to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Larry also proudly continued to serve on Board of Trustees at REED Credit Union.
In 1988, Larry and Patty bought their second home in Stafford, Texas and truly set down roots. He was an amazing Daddy with two very active children. He loved having a son to watch football, baseball and take hunting every November. He was also quite fond of his daughter and loved to watch her play every kind of ball, swim and run and sometimes fit in some fishing with her.
Over all the years in Stafford, the Davis home was a hub for so many events. All family Thanksgivings and Christmases, Larry and Patty would prepare a feast for all. From homecomings to proms, sporting team parties, graduations and more, their doors were always open. And, once you walked through those doors, you were guaranteed to be fed!
Larry loved to lend a hand. He’d go out of his way to help family, friends and even strangers. He also loved to show up with food, everywhere he went. Everywhere! He cooked for the youth group on Sundays at FUMC in Missouri City, he made dinners to bring for Lindsay’s entire college volleyball team on game days, he made breakfast tacos twice a week for all of his work friends. His most recent staples were boudin dips, shrimp bisque and always his famous beans.
In 2017, Larry’s tragedy train hit its max as he unexpectedly lost his sister and two short months later, the love of his life, Patty. It’s hard to find your way after so many heartbreaks. Larry did his best enjoying his retirement fishing at the creek, hunting with no agenda and spending time with friends. He made countless trips to Austin to see his grandkids for holidays and all of their events. He was so proud of each of them and loved all of them so much.
