LC Clayton departed from this life on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. LC was a proud, disciplined and punctual man. He was very grounded in his faith. He trusted God in all things and was always praying for others.
LC was born on March 10, 1939, in Bellville, Texas to the late Nathaniel Clayton and Johnnie Mae Archie. LC lived in Bellville with his grandparents Tom and Vinnie Archie until the age of eighteen, which is when he enlisted in the United States Army. His specialty was Light Weapons Infantry. He served in the Army until 1958 and was honorably discharged. He moved to Houston, Texas, where he met and married Patricia Shelby. They eventually moved to Missouri City, Texas. They were married for forty-four years, until the untimely passing of his beautiful wife, on November 20, 2012. In this union they were blessed with three children, Mark, Earthala “Crickett”, and Inga.
LC accepted Christ at an early age. He had been a long-time member of Abiding Faith in Missouri City, Texas. He was a loyal member of South Post Oak Church of Christ, in Houston, Texas, where he served as Assistant Minister. LC worked for Grocer’s Supply Company in Houston, Texas and was a very active member of the Teamsters Union. He retired after forty plus years.
Proceeding him in death was his beautiful wife Patricia Clayton, his sisters Shackquelyn James, Marjorie Rhone, and Esther Clayton, his brothers Tommy Clayton, Don Clayton, and Clarence “Pete” Palmer. He leaves to cherish his memories his siblings, Hortense Bobbitt, Sharon Kellum (Herbert), and Nick Clayton. His children, son~ Mark Clayton, daughter~ Earthala Clayton Woolridge, daughter~ Inga Grinell (devoted son-in-law~ Joe N. Grinell III). Grandchildren Mark Clayton II (Ashlee), Tracee Clayton, Desha Clayton (Melody), DeLance Brown (Deante’), Ilyse Grinell, Asia Grinell, Myson Woolridge, Madison Woolridge, and Jordan Grinell. Great grandchildren DeLance Brown Jr., and Emerie Clayton. Lastly, he leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends.
A gathering for L C will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
