It is with deep sadness that I just learned of Mr. Wallace’s passing. He hired me as High school Instructional Specialist at North Shore Senior High. He was such a great man and leader. I don’t know why his name came to me to look up. He lead by example and was respected by all. He will forever be remembered and missed.

Mr. Wallace was my first boss and I am forever grateful for his support, leadership and friendship. Most of all, I have him to thank for helping me become who I am today. Without him taking a chance on me, I would have not had the opportunity to teach at North Shore ❤️ Mr. Wallace created such an incredible culture at NSSH for both students and teachers. He was a one in a million kinda man. Trailblazer, Legend, Leader, and Friend to all. It was never hard to respect him in all aspects. Fellow Red Raider and I am so proud and honored to have had him in my life. Thank you for continually serving our world by being a Shepard for the greater good. You will be missed immensely but I have a feeling you’ll be watching over all of us 🥰 I am so sad to miss all the celebrations of his incredible life due to being out of town but please know that his impact carries on as legacy in my life and on to those I have been able to influence. My husband, Coach Wayne Garner (died on 10.16.21), helped to coach Kenneth Wallace and his amazing Estacado Matadors who won the 1968 Texas state championship in football the first year the school had competed in UIL competition.  Kenneth was a great leader as a young man, and he was a great leader and a super role model as a public school educator for so many years. The Estacado Nation was special to him as he was to us. May the Lord watch over Kenneth's precious family and give them peace as they know that he is now safe and healed in the arms of Jesus.

Saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth Wallace. We were cousins and all grew up in Lubbock,Tx. His brothers, Jim and James attended Dunbar H.S. with me and Kenneth later attended Texas Tech with me, becoming a stellar foot ball player with the Red Raiders. Certainly, our condolences go out to his wife and children. Know that he touched many lives. It's good to know that now he is with God.

Mr. Wallace gave me my first teaching job. I started at NSSH in the middle of the 05-06 school year, and I remember him taking me under his wing and just being an outstanding  leader and mentor. He reassured me I was going to be great and allowed me to do my own thing without ever interfering in my job. He was someone who would always ask if everything was ok, and made sure I had everything I needed in the classroom. He was the first to believe in me and I felt like he genuinely cared about everyone’s well-being. I’ve worked for other great principals here in GPISD, but Mr. Wallace, by far, will always be the most special one. Thanks to him taking a chance on this bubbly kid out of college,  I discovered my purpose in my life.  My deepest condolences and prayers go out to his family. 

Mr. Wallace was an influence to many of us in GPISD. Having lost my father at the tender age of 4, I can say that he was definitely one of the most revered and influential father figures in my life. There was a certain aura about Mr. Wallace when you saw him; he exuded leadership and authority, yet the tenderness and care of a father (which he was to so many of us). Although I never got the privilege to personally work with him at the campus level, I appreciate the confidence he had in me and the seeds of leadership he sowed into me. 

He always told me he would come for me, to work with him if/when he had a position at NSSHS, but he was elevated to Assistant Superintendent before that happened. Nonetheless, he still kept his word and has been a part of the decisions to elevate me here in GPISD. I'll never forget the text message he sent to me the day I drove off campus to start my summer vacation (2018). Obviously, that message led to a meeting where I would get the news that changed my career, and my life; Principal of NS Middle School! Having never set out to pursue the position, I was reassured that I was definitely the person for the job. Again, the confidence in me was inspiring and I graciously accepted the opportunity.

Fast forward--my mother became terminally ill the summer of 2019, so I took FMLA to be by her side. Because I wouldn't be available to open the school year with my staff & students, Mr. Wallace stepped in and filled in as the Interim Principal for me while I cared for my mother. He encouraged me not to worry about my campus, and to take all the time I needed with my Mom. His words were comforting and reassuring, like a father who gave his son permission to focus on something else while he took on his Son's responsibility. Giving me that opportunity to be by my mother's side without worry, until she transitioned, is something I will be eternally grateful to Mr. Wallace for; and I know my Mom will finally get the chance to thank him in Heaven.

Mr. Wallace had a huge impact on my career. Not only did he hire me as a counselor, but helped me get into administration. I  wouldn’t be where I am today. without his help. He was a great man who impacted thousands of students. I pray that his family will find peace knowing what an impact he had. 

Sad to hear about the loss of such a great leader.  I had the privilege of working for Mr. Wallace for many years at North Shore.  He was my favorite principal and he brought the power of his presence, his compassion and his dedication to work everyday.  He will be greatly missed but his positive influence on others will continue.  May the care and love of those around you provide comfort and peace to the Wallace family.

Mr Wallace gave me my first teaching job in Texas only 2 days after meeting me. 
I'll always remember his sense of humor &  calm, quiet, yet focused style of leadership. 
I once told him "Sir, you may be short, but I look up to you" I  always will!
What a loss, but WHAT A LIFE!!!

Condolences to the family.Kenneth was one of our QB's(8th  grade,Struggs' Jr.Hi '65,the inarguabl football team). Would have been great to continue playing with him thru out our HS careers but with Estacada HS built it split the East side players.R.I.P #12!

Mr. Wallace's grandmother, Evelyn Anderson, worked for my grandmother for many years. No doubt, she and his mother passed on their numerous classy and hardworking traits. I was so proud of his achievements. 

I am deeply saddened that Ken " my Friend " (our special greeting) has gone home.  I have much love, sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the Wallace Family. 
We all became friends at Texas Tech. I recall the first bowl game I attended---Sun Bowl,  El Paso, TX!  Carolyn and I drove! I  don't remember if we won, I do remember the fun, joy and fellowship!
Ken, my Friend,  has departed this earth but will FOREVER  live in our hearts.

It was with great sadness to hear of the passing of Mr. Wallace. My husband and I had the great privilege to work for him at Estacado high school. Our kids loved him too, Contessa always knew he had candy in his pocket and JR thought he could just go over to the pond by Preston Smith to fish with him anytime without asking. Mr. Wallace was the true definition of a leader. He was honest, tough, and caring. When he spoke, you believed him. I have been blessed to have him as a principal and co-worker. Mr. Wallace hired me fresh from earning my Alternative Teaching Certificate. Best professional decision I made working for him. This is heart breaking. He was a great principal, leader and example of being an outstanding man for the students at North Shore.  What an amazing and blessed life he led. My sincere condolences to his family.

Mr. Wallace will always be remembered by me for two reasons!  
One: I've been a teacher for 20 years all because Mr. Wallace went to Central Office and spoke on my behalf all those years ago.   As a result, I’ve been elected as Teacher of the year twice!
Two: He opened up the doors of Estacado HS to allow one of my biggest dreams as a playwright to happen in bringing singer Karen Clark Sheard (Clark Sisters), who impacted and changed our community by bridging us together.

I met Kenneth when he served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals - TASSP.  As Executive Director for TASSP, I always enjoyed my time with Ken, and held him in the highest regard as a board member, principal, father, husband and friend.
I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

Our deepest condolences to the Wallace family and friends. We had the pleasure of knowing Ken, first as our son Daniel’s principal and then as coworkers for GPISD at the administration building.   He was a great man who served the GPISD family with passion and dedication. We kept in touch after we retired and always looked forward to his holiday wishes. We will truly miss him. I’m so saddened by the loss of my favorite principal and friend. When Mr. Wallace first came to North Shore that summer, my mother said “You and Sarah need to go up to the school and meet the new principal.” So off we went just a week after I had major surgery. That resulted in a lasting friendship. A number of years later he came up to me in the hallway of the senior high, put his hand on my shoulder and said “You know you were the first teacher to come meet me when I came here!” He never forgot that! He was fond of my mother as well. She always wanted to say hello to him if she came to the school, and she made him peanut brittle every Christmas. When she passed away, he came to her funeral service.  I said to him there “Mr. Wallace, I thought you didn’t do funerals”. He replied with a twinkle in his eye, “For your mother, I do funerals.”   Sometimes I would pass the school on a Saturday or Sunday and there his old white fishing truck would be parked in his parking spot. I would always tell him on Monday that he was working too hard! He would just chuckle.  I’m sorry that he didn’t get to enjoy a long retirement doing what he loved best…fishing.  But I do think that the many years he spent making sure kids graduated was actually his better love. Rest In Peace, Mr. Wallace. You will be missed by many. Praying for peace and comfort for the family.

The year 2012, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Wallace. We met downtown while serving jury duty.
We seen each other 2 more years after that. He was a pleasant person and had a great since of humor.
May he now rest in the hands of our Heavenly Father


My condolences to Mrs Wallace and your children.  I respect Kenneth and his accomplishments greatly. 
  I am so very proud of our friendship dating back to my time at Texas Tech in 1981 to this day. 
   You will truly be missed. Rest in peace. 

Mr. Wallace gave me my first teaching position in 2009. He was a phenomenal principal who truly cared about his students and his staff.  If it wasn’t for him offering me a job and being so persistent to get me to say yes, I might not be married to my husband who was also a teacher at North Shore. Mr. Wallace would joke that if he didn’t propose by 2 1/2 years of dating, he’d fire him and I’d break up with on the same day. He proposed at 2 1/2 years on the day, so I think his joking actually did the trick. We’ve now been married for 9 years. 
No matter what, Mr. Wallace would stop to have a conversation, listen, laugh, joke, and give advice. He was a great boss and an even better mentor to me and so many others. He touched so many lives and will truly be missed.  

Mr. Wallace was a Superhero that strengthened my foundation in Education. I worked under him for a few years because he was always checking in with me if I" got that degree yet or passed that certification exam."  He always told me, "I know someone that needs a teacher, are you ready yet?" Thank you Mr. Wallace for placing me under your wing. You were a true blessing and a light.  Thank you for your resilience, your humor, your wisdom, and passion for Educators, students, and families. 
To the Wallace Family, may his memories bring you joy, peace, and comfort always and forever.

Mr.  Wallace was a friend and mentor to everyone who ever worked for him.  I had the honor of being one of his assistant principals at North Shore Senior High.  Even after becoming a principal in another district, I frequently called Mr. Wallace for advice or just to "talk through" an issue on my campus.  He always gave me great counsel and usually had me laughing by the end of the conversation.  

It's been 15 years since I have worked with Mr. Wallace, but I find that I still ask myself what he would do in sticky situations.  

Here are my favorite things he taught me:
1.   Act like I know what I am doing, even if I am unsure.  It's a way to instill confidence in others.
2.  Don't use "Neiman Marcus" words if "7 11" words will do.
3.  When I hire someone to do a job, then let them do it with no interference from me.  Trust that they know what they are doing.

Thank you to the Wallace family for sharing Mr. Wallace with us!  Learning from him enriched my career and my life!
