Karen Grace Dargen Phillips, 67, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on July 11th 2012. They were welcomed by her beloved mother Mary Grace Dargen, grandparents, aunts, uncles, & in-laws.
Karen was born in Massachusetts on June 4th 1945 but then spent most of her life in Houston, TX. She went to school in Spring Branch and was in the first graduating class at Memorial High School. She received a degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University and then went on to get her Master’s degree from The University of Houston.
Karen spent 40 years devoting herself to the State of Texas and working in the criminal justice system. After retiring she still dedicated herself to the system and provided services to the Texas Department of Emergency Management as a public assistance specialist, until the time of her death.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and she was known as the “family paparazzi.” If there was a party, you can guarantee that your picture was going to be taken by Karen. She loved going to her grandchildren’s different events, of which there were many.
Karen is survived by her husband William “Bill” Phillips, daughters Lisa Bench and husband Donald, Lynette Gray and her husband Cary, Lynda Baldwin and her husband Orus, sons Donald & Doug Phillips, father Donald Dargen, sister Patricia Therrell & husband Larry, sister Susan Brooks & husband Wade & her brother Mike Dargen & special friends Randy Evans & Ken Arrington.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00p.m. Sunday July 15, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday July 16, 2012 in the St. Jerome Catholic Church 8825 Kempwood Dr. Houston, Texas 77080. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
