Joy Lisette Plummer Llorens was born in Houston, TX to Willman James “Bill” Plummer Sr. and Netholia Ann Yelling Plummer on September 8, 1975. Joy grew up here in Houston, where she was confirmed and continued to attend St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Upon graduation from B.T. Washington High School, Joy attended Texas A&M University (Go Aggies!), where she earned a B. A. degree in Journalism. Joy began her education career with Aldine Independent School District as an elementary language arts teacher and went on to earn her M. Ed. in Library Sciences from Sam Houston State University. She became an information literacy specialist (librarian) at Carver High School in 2006, where she remained until her recent retirement. Joy spent her life advocating for children, education and reading. She volunteered many hours and talents to the endeavors of her own children at both St. Ambrose and St. Pius X Catholic Schools, and could be seen on the sidelines for many sporting events. She was a phenomenal mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, librarian and cook.
Joy is survived by: her daughter, Ryan Ann Llorens; son, Hayden James Llorens; father, Willman Plummer Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Leah Rene and Bernard Lorenzo Bynum III; nephew, Stephen Paul Bynum; niece, Belani Rose Bynum; aunts, Jane James, Erma Mouton, Grace (Leonard Sr.) Wyatt, Hattie Johnson, Carolyn Davis, Irmatean (Willie) Watson, and Iris Yelling Taylor; uncles, Nelson Plummer, Alonzo “Junior” (Mary) Yelling, and Charles Plummer; life-long time friend, Terri Perez; multitudes of first, second and third cousins; and a host of in-laws, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her mother, Ann Plummer; her brother, Willman James “Jim” Plummer Jr.; grandparents, Leah and Raney Plummer; grandparents, Eunice and Alonzo Yelling Sr.; aunts, Altheris McConico and Rosa Fogg; uncles, Cavanaugh Yelling, Frank Plummer, Harold Plummer, David Plummer, Lionel McConico, Melvin Davis, Roy James, Freeman Mouton, and Walter Johnson; great-aunts and uncles; cousins; and close family friends.
Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman St., Houston, Texas 77018 with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will then be at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
