He received his education at St. Rose of Lima Elementary School, Northwest Junior High School, St. Pius X High School, Waltrip High School, and received his GED in 1976. He discovered his passion for barbering at the age of 15, subsequently attending barber school and ultimately establishing Messina's Barber Shop off Katy Freeway in 1993. He dedicated over five decades to his craft.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Cynthia (Cindy) Messina; his sons, Joseph Jr. (Micheli) Messina and James Messina; his cherished grandchildren, Justin and Hailie Messina; and his brothers-in-law, Steven and Robert Hansen.
Beyond his professional life, Joe was a skilled cook who found joy in preparing meals for his friends and family, particularly smoked meats and whatever sounded like a good idea to cook. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and SPJST (Slovanska Podporujici Jednota Statu Texas). He also served as a bartender at various establishments, including Dance Town USA, Bill Mraz Dance Hall, the Chandelier Ballroom, Bingo in the Heights (SPJST), and several other lodges.
