Joseph Baker, 72, of Houston Texas, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023 with his beloved wife, daughter and son by his side. Joseph was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Elmer Cornelius Baker and Jane Maude Hayes. After graduating from Miami Springs Senior High School in 1969 and attending Miami Dade Community College, he went on to work in the insurance business and became a leading sales agent and manager for Prudential Insurance Company. Joe met his high school sweetheart Lucy-Ann and in 1972 they married and had two children, Gary and Kari. For the next 45 years he resided in Miami, Florida and after retiring in 2017 he moved to Houston, Texas in order to spend more time with his granddaughter.
Joe had a very full life and was full to the brim with knowledge and experience gained through all of his life experiences. He always enjoyed getting behind the wheel whether it was racing stock cars at Hialeah speedway or building and restoring a 1952 Ford pickup. He also restored and rode a Harley. He spent most of his free time in his garage working on home improvement projects and especially liked working with and passing his knowledge onto his son. He enjoyed the Florida outdoors and loved spending time camping and boating with family. He volunteered much of his time to his daughter’s high school marching band where he was President of the Southridge Band Parents Association. His canine companions were also dear to him. Bennie has stayed behind with Lucy, but Bo, Dino, Dinah, Rusty, Alfie, Cookie and Harlee are on a long walk with him now.
Joe is predeceased by his father Captain Elmer Cornelius Baker, USAF, mother Jane Maude Hayes and sister Jean Harvey. Joe is survived by his wife Lucy-Ann, son, Gary (wife Ana), daughter Kari (husband Mario) and his granddaughter, Sophee.
