He started his work journey at HEB as a stocker and moved into the printing shop from his friend Rogelio. In the printing shop, he learned how to work on printing jobs for HEB and later left to pursue a career in printing with the Bonner Printing Company. As he grew in his career, he became the President of the Printer’s Union. There he led his union team to fight for fair wages, better hours, and improved benefits for employment and improvements in workforce conditions. He moved his family to Houston in for more opportunity. As his skilled grew, he became a lithographer and worked for larger companies on four color printing presses. In the 2000s, Joe retired from printing.
He found a new hobby which turned into a furniture business. He and his wife would go to auctions, buy storage sheds looking for refurbished furniture which he would redo to look new. He also bought wholesale furniture to sell. He loved going with his wife to look for estate sales, auctions, and other places for furniture. He enjoyed talking to people and often told his wife, he wished he would have done this sooner in his life.
Joe enjoyed working with his hands. He could fix anything in the house or on the car. He enjoyed projects with cars and finished a rebuilt engine of a Mustang. If he needed a tool, he to fix the house projects or cars, he would always buy it. He would say, “I will always have the tools needed to repair the house or cars.” His tool collection was neatly organized and a sight to see.
Joe liked to fish, had a love for animals and enjoyed assembling model airplanes. His personality was honest, genuine, straight forward in his words and tell it like it is person. He would crack a joke out of nowhere and everyone would laugh. He was a man of his word, true friend, loyal and put his family first throughout his life. He enjoyed helping anyone that was in need.
Joe was a spiritual person and believed in God and the Catholic church. He was dedicated and believed in prayer, faith, doing the right thing and not harming anyone intentionally. He was granted his last rights by Father Justin Cormic and passed peacefully shortly after.
He loved his family and was a wonderful husband and father. He was a true love to his wife Palmira and her to him. When he first saw Palmira, he said he was going to marry her and did. Through all the ups and down, sickness and health Joe and Palmira kept love and respect for each other as the number one priority in their 62 years of marriage.
