Jose A. Gutierrez, age 69, of Porter, Texas passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Jose was born in Edinburg, Texas to Maria Montolla and Jesus Gutierrez. Jose was a family man. When Liz was younger, Jose taught her how to dance on his feet and they would both listen to music together. Cindy remembers how her dad would ask her for help but she would always keep her hands in her pockets to which Jose would say "how in the hell are you going to help with no hands." Mindy remembers when dad would get mad, he would pull out in his truck and come back happy. Because Mindy was the baby, she didn't have to do anything. Seeing his family together was something that made him happy and always made him smile. He felt rewarded during the family trips he and his family took every summer. He was a trick of all trades and there was nothing that he could not do. He enjoyed listening to Little Joe, especially when he was driving his truck. His favorite color was royal blue. In his free time, Jose would tend to his tomato garden, something he felt very proud of. He also loved fishing and dancing.
Jose is survived by his spouse, Maria Gutierrez whom he was married for 49 years; his daughters Elizabeth Rodriguez (Jesus Rodriguez), Cynthia Longoria (Ruben Longoria), and Melinda Gutierrez (Ricardo Vasquez Jr.); his grandchildren Leslie Gutierrez, Joel Cordero, Loretta Cordero, Samantha Zapata, Leo Rodriguez, Lazaro Torres, Samantha Alvardo, Alexis Longoria, Alex Longoria, Crystal Longoria, Penelope Longoria, Jelly Vasquez, Tess Vasquez, RJ Vasquez, Jesse Vasquez, Alicia Vasquez, Faith Vasquez, Bella Vasquez, Violet Vasquez, Ricardo Vasquez III; his great grandchildren Isaiah Torres, Noah Torres, Isabella Cordero, Eric Ontiveros, Analaya Cordero, Camille Longoria, Christopher Oviedo and Aria Rodriguez.
Jose was preceded in death by his father Jesus Gutierrez and his mother Maria Montolla.
A visitation for Jose will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A rosary will occur Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 16, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A committal service will occur Friday, June 16, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Brookside Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13401 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039. Following the burial, there will be food and refreshments at La Gala Banquet Hall at 1600 Aldine Bender Rd, Houston, TX 77032.
