Lupe is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Maria Cervantes Chavez, his three daughters Maritza Chavez, Lauren Chavez, Sarah Chavez, his son Lucas Chavez, three sisters Elva Dozal, Martha Rodriguez and Rosario Rodriguez and his beloved grandchildren, Noah, Ethann and Levi.
Lupe loved the lord and was a devout Christian. In September of 1979, he accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and lived his life accordingly. He enjoyed studying the bible and spreading the “word” through singing, playing his guitar, and reciting bible verses.
As a young man, Lupe taught himself to play the guitar and sang with a Mariachi group. When he accepted the lord as his savior, he began his music ministry in the Texas prisons to inmates who opened their hearts through song and worship.
Lupe came from a family filled of bakers! He mastered the art of baking Mexican sweet bread and pastries. He opened up his bakery business in the 60s and successfully supported his family. He also enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, discovering new restaurants to try, and singing with his daughter, Sarah.
On October 13, 2016, Lupe suffered a brain aneurism which required daily care from his devoted wife and daughters.
Lupe will be remembered as a faithful Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
