Jose Helis Barrera joined his celestial family in the early hours of February 25, 2015. He was known as “Don Evelio” to most and as “Papi Evelio” to his children and grandchildren. Don Evelio was born in La Union, El Salvador on December 1, 1938. He migrated to the United States during the Salvadoran Civil War in the 1980s. His final years were spent in Cypress, Texas engaged in his passion for landscaping. Don Evelio was a caring husband, loving father, and nurturing grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Marina Barrera, nine children: Elsy, Lina, Nery, Evelyn, Carlos, Nori, Nelson, Tarcila, and Nelly; twenty-nine grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. His love and dedication to his family, unyielding work ethic, and vibrant personality will remain in our hearts and forever in our memory.
A celebration of Don Evelio’s life will take place at Brookside Funeral Home on Sunday March 1, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. followed by our final farewell on Monday March 2, 2015 beginning at 8 a.m.
