Jon was born into a large family who received him with open arms and a huge amount of love. He was the first grandson born on his mother’s side. Jon was a very happy and easy baby who never really fussed or was difficult. He was extremely smart and had a HUGE heart. During the mid-1960’s, Jon lived in Dallas, Houston, and New Braunfels. He settled in Houston in 1968 and never left again. He finished out his high school education at Spring Woods High School in 1974. He attended some college at Sam Houston State University before deciding to take a job in the Oil and Gas Industry. Jon was a Draftsman, small business owner, and Pipeline Engineer during his lifetime. He ended his working career at Foster Wheeler as a Pipeline Engineer in 2016. His passion was building Dioramas! Jon was a long-time member of IPMS. He also started the Houston Armor Club with a few friends several years ago who were interested in building military models. Plastic models were his favorite and his biggest awards were given to him at Mastercon in the 1990’s. He won regional and national awards as well. His skill and creativity were known throughout Houston and beyond. Jon’s best asset was his big heart. He helped people consistently throughout his life without ever expecting anything in return. He was quick to help and slow to judge. He loved being around people and had a lot of good friends. He had a great sense of humor and was good at making people laugh.
Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Wilda H. Baker. He is survived by his father, Laurence Jon Baker, Sr. His sisters: Marguerite Smith and husband, Les Smith, Pattie Baker, and Laura Ermis and husband, Frank Ermis. He is also survived by his nephews: Christopher Epstein and wife, Ashley Epstein, Thomas Ermis, Jacob Ermis, and Michael Ermis; as well as his great niece, Elliot Epstein and great nephew, Isaac Epstein. We would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to Scott McGowan for being the last person to talk to him on the phone and more importantly making him laugh on the phone the night before and Kevin G. for helping both Pattie and Jon in the hours after his death. Thank you also to the members of the Houston Armor Club and numerous other family and friends for their love and support.
