He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 5, 1922 to William A. and Etta Myrick. John was the youngest of 10 children.
He served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy during World War II.
John was employed by Cone, Inc. in Greensboro as a printer for 23 years until he retired and moved to Florida in 1987. John loved to bowl, golf and play softball. He was a Christian who was well known for his generosity. He was a member of the Palm Street Christian Church in Greensboro.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Emily; his daughter, Cynthia deGrom of Houston, two granddaughters, Stephanie Terhune and husband Jim; Amy Berryann and husband Wayne and six great-grandchildren all of McLeansville, North Carolina.
John and his wife moved to Houston in 2004 to be near their daughter when John was diagnosed with Dementia.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family for a graveside service to be conducted at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive on Wednesday, February 2 at 11:30 a.m.
