On March 20, 1948, he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Lorraine Griffith. He was drafted into the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.
John Sr. and his wife relocated to Houston, Texas in 1952. He also continued his education at the University of Houston. Soon after, they welcomed and raised Ellery Carl Jones. This union became the proud parents of four children of their own. During that time, he was employed by Champion International, where he retired after 40 years of service.
On March 5, 2023, God’s heavenly gates opened, and an announcement was made: “You fought the good fight, you have finished the race and have kept the faith.” And his glorious journey began. He is proceeded in death by his lovely wife, both parents, his only sibling, Morris Hensley, and his grandson Raymond Broussard.
John Hensley Sr. leaves to cherish such precious memories his five children Ellery Jones, John Jr., Bertrice, Morain, and Lovell Joseph. Seven grandchildren Amcora Hensley Jones, John Hensley III, Todd Mitchell, Donald Joseph Jr., Dawnielle Joseph, and Morain Hensley Jr., and Thaddeus Jones. Ten great-grandchildren Anwald Hunter Jr., Amber Hunter, DeArvionne Arnold, DaJae Joseph, Esias Hensley, DaJuan Joseph, Dillion Joseph, Kloe Joseph, Alexia D. Hensley, and Tiberius Hensley. Two great-great granddaughters Avarose Nicole Hunter and Eva-Reign Elegance Hunter. Followed by a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors.
