John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Candace; his son, Scott; his daughter. Leigh; his granddaughter, Lilah; his daughter from a previous marriage, Elizabeth; his brother, David, and his family; his sister, Nancy; his sister, Ann and her family, and other dear friends.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, the son of George and Elizabeth Gregory, John led a life immersed in his family and in continuous search of knowledge and understanding, especially in his beloved field of geology.
John graduated with an undergraduate degree from Marietta College and a master’s degree from Kanas State University. After graduation, John spent most his early adult years in New Orleans, followed by more than four decades in Houston while working in the oil and gas industry. In recent years, John volunteered his time assisting low-to-moderate income taxpayers with their returns as a tax aide with the AARP Foundation. He also helped with projects at Fair Haven United Methodist Church near his home.
