John William Glass Jr. was born on April 1, 1918, in Chillicothe, Texas, to John William Glass and Rosa Lee Brandle Glass. After his mother died when he was an infant, his grandmother, Elizabeth Brandle, and aunts, Violet Daniel, Sally Daniel, and Ethel Brotherton raised him. John enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1941 where he served until 1945 when he was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was stationed in the Caribbean as a radio operator on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked and was the first man on his base to hear the news and alert his Commanding Officer.
John met his wife of 56 years in Ponce, Puerto Rico where he was on assignment with Union Carbide. In 1972, he moved his family to the LaMarque/Texas City area where he worked for Union Carbide until he retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and older brother, Marvin Martin Glass. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Lydia Glass, sister, Coralea Shaw, daughter Rosa Delia Gay (James), son Carl Wayne Glass (Sharon), daughter Cindy Scarborough (Ray), son Ray Glass, grandchildren Rachel Delia Adams, John William Glass Ill, Garret James Glass, Ethan Wayne Glass, Ryan Charles Glass, Damien Scarborough, Melissa Scarborough, Chad Scarborough and several greatgrand children The Funeral Service will be on Thursday August 18, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment with Military Honors at Houston National Cemetery at 12:30pm.
