Born in Tulsa, Ok on June 24, 1925, John lived a life that was always family centered. After the death of his own father, he, his sister and two brothers began working to support their mother as a team. He worked from the age of 12 until he retired.
He joined the Army Air Corps right out of high school to fight in WWII. He became the navigator on a B-17 flying 21 combat missions over Europe in the 8th Air Force.
John received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). The majority of his career was spent as a project manager on multiple major international oil and gas pipeline projects, but was not afraid to tackle any other type of job.
John also loved lake life, and built a lake house from the ground up, creating a lifetime of memories for his family.
He met and married the love of his life in 1957. (Patricia "Patsy" Boggs) They were married for 54 years before she passed away from Alzheimer's. He showed us a pure example of love by caring for her well past the time that most of us would be capable of.
After retiring, John was passionate about the Civil Air Patrol where he volunteered for years, and even had the Operation Center in Houston named after him.
John and Patsy are survived by two daughters, Joan F. Vanderbilt (David) and Carol F. Spencer and five grandchildren whom they fiercely loved.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy., Houston, TX 77079.
