John was proud of his education. He attended the National Taiwan University where he majored in Agriculture. In 1958, he immigrated to the United States to pursue his master’s in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University, and later his master’s in business administration from the University of North Texas.
While working a summer job in New York, John had a chance encounter with Mary Ting, an international student attending NYU from Hong Kong. They were married in June 1962 soon afterwards and immediately began raising a family of a son and four daughters. John ultimately moved the family to Texas where he and Mary resided for the remainder of his life, watching children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren flourish. They became American Citizens around 2012.
John loved America and was a dedicated and prolific engineer and businessman. He worked for Cameron Ironworks and Tapco early in his career before partnering with a colleague to start Houston Systems, an oil and gas manufacturing support company. Later, John struck out on his own, using the opening of trade relations with China to establish Sino American, Inc and Loyal American, Inc with a focus on logistics and the import/export of goods. He loved his craft and was very successful in all his business ventures.
John CH Chan was preceded in death by his sister Dr. Bianca Yip and sister-in-law Phobe Chan.
