Johanna George Borne

Johanna Elizabeth George Borne was born on Saturday, October 9, 1920, in a small town called Prairie Hills near Mexia, Texas. She passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the age of 97 years-old. She was best known by her nickname, Anna Beth Borne or just A.B. Anna Beth was the fourth of seven children, five boys and two girls, given birth to William David and Artie Byrd George. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She moved to Houston, Texas, in the late-1930s. It was in Houston that she met the love-of-her-life, one Emery Erl Borne, who lived in the Heights. Emery was the assistant manager of various movie theaters including the Yale theater. Anna Beth worked at the Yale theater as a behind-the-counter candy girl. Often, the theater staff would go out together with each other, and it was not too long before Emery and Anna Beth began to date. In January 1941, they were married, but in December of that year, the United States entered into World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, HI. In 1945, Emery returned home and, soon thereafter, he and Anna Beth began their family. They were blessed with two children, Emery Erl Jr. and Jo Anne. Unfortunately, Emery Sr., who had fought the Japanese in the Pacific Islands, died in 1963, and left Anna Beth to raise two adolescence children. Anna Beth worked for the city of Houston until she retired. After retirement, she moved to Lago Vista, Texas, in the Austin, Texas area, before returning to Houston in the Kingwood and Willowbrook areas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Emery Sr., and her son, Emery Jr. She leaves behind her daughter, Jo Anne Baskin, and son-in-law, Coy Baskin, and daughter-in-law, Frances Ann Borne, along with four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

There will be a gravesite ceremony held in Anna Beth’s honor on Monday, July 2, 1918, at 10:00 a.m. in the Brookside Memorial Cemetery near the entrance at the corner of I-69 (Eastex Freeway) and Lauder Road. Interment proceedings will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, the Gideon’s International, or a faith-based organization of your choice.
