Joe was born January 25, 1940 in Centralia, Illinois, to the late Lola and Fred Davis. Joe’s family moved to Bay City, Texas in 1941, then on to Houston, Texas, where Joe graduated from Bellaire High School in 1957. Joe attended the University of Texas at Austin, taking time off to serve in the Texas Air National Guard and the United States Air Force Reserve from 1963-64 before being honorably discharged. In 1965, Joe graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering.
He began his engineering career with Robishaw Engineering in Houston, Texas, and then joined Belmas in 1966. In 1972, Joe made his final career move to Fluor. Joe’s distinguished career with Fluor took him to various regions around the world, including a two year stint with his family in London, England. Back in Houston, Joe assumed the role of Vice-President and General Manager of Fluor’s Houston Operations Center in 1988, spending 3 years in the role he called “his most rewarding” before moving to Hanford, WA as President of Fluor Daniel Northwest. Joe retired in 1999 to enjoy his true passions: family, friends and fishing.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Anne Davis; son David Davis and wife Dianna; son Mark Davis and wife Christa; and three grandchildren, John, Michael and Emma.
Memorial services will be held June 11, 2015 at 10 am at Memorial Drive Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079, with a reception to follow immediately afterward. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079.
To honor Joe, his family is establishing an endowed scholarship for engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.
