Psalm 116 says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants,” and faithful was exactly how Jerry’s family and friends would describe him. When Jerry married Shirley in March of 1996, he not only began a devoted life to his longtime love, he also embraced Shirley’s three children, loving them as deeply as any biological parent could. As time passed, the Landers family grew closer together, eventually welcoming four grandchildren whom Jerry loved more than life.
Born in Longview on June 25, 1951, Jerry attended the University of Texas, spending his career as a successful computer engineer. An avid traveler, Jerry’s adventurous spirit took him across the globe, exploring various countries and experiencing many cultures. Jerry always brought laughter to family gatherings with his infectious smile and clever wit. His fun-loving spirit was evident through his love of good beer, good wine, good music, and excellent dance moves.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy “Dot” and Thomas Landers Jr.. He is survived by his immediate family: Shirley Landers (wife), Alison and Greg Evans and grandson, Griffin; Steven and Audrey Thorpe and granddaughters, Abbey, Addison and Avery; and Emily Frank. Jerry is also survived by his brothers: Thomas III and wife Joan, Michael and wife Karen, along with his beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., December 12, 2022 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
