Jeanette is survived by her daughter and grandson, Gwen Moran and Diego Moran,
Houston, TX; and her sister, Ouida Carroll, Baton Rouge, LA.
Jeanette was born on August 23, 1952 to Louis H. Hafner and Elizabeth McGehee in
Houston, TX. She lived in Ogden, Utah, where she welcomed her daughter Gwen into
her life in December 1979. She worked as a paramedic there until they moved to
Denton, Texas in the early 1980's. She spent the next 10 years at home raising her
daughter and housekeeping. In 1991, she moved to Houston with her daughter. She
graduated from University of St. Thomas with a Masters degree in Education: Bilingual &
English as a Second Language in 1998. She started her teaching career in Fort Bend
ISD and retired from Aldine ISD in 2010. She was particularly happy to welcome her
grandson Diego in December 2006. She loved spending time with Diego, taking him
places and teaching him.
Jeanette was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
joined the church when she was 18 years old.She
served a mission in Ecuador where she learned Spanish.
Jeanette was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2010. She had an allergic reaction
to each of the medications that would have slowed the progress of the disease. She
maintained her faith and a positive outlook on life regardless of these circumstances.
A public viewing is scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 7pm in the LDS chapel
located at 5531 Beechnut St. Houston, TX 77096. Another viewing will be held at 9am
on Friday, February 16, 2018. Funeral services will be held immediately following the
viewing at 10 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jeanette’s life.
