Bud enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 after graduating from Mansfield High School in Arkansas. He specialized in Naval Communications Warfare and rose through the ranks to earn a commission as a Chief Warrant Officer, retiring in 1973 after 21 years of service. He spent most of his naval career in overseas locations, including French Morocco, Cyprus, Scotland, Guam, Japan, and Hawaii. While raising his family, Mr. Tyler completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and began working for the Amoco Production Company in 1975. He retired for the second time in May of 1993.
Success in his military service and his business career can be directly attributed to his unflinching work ethic and his outstanding ability to lead others. He carried these gifts with him into his community of faith where he served as a deacon at Copperfield Church in Houston, while maintaining an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Artela Bullock, his brother Dennis Russell (Becky), his four children, Joel Bennett, James Dennis (Karen), Laurel Ann (Michael), and David Blair. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Joel Tyler, Courtney Thomas (Ryan), Alissa Tyler, Luke Tyler, Hannah Tyler, Michael Tyler, Andrew Tyler, as well as two great grandchildren, Eila and Everett Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jeptha Byron, his mother Eunice Mae, stepmother Myrtle Estelle, and his sister Patricia Dean Johnson.
Services will be held this Sunday, May 10, 2015, at 2pm at Copperfield Church in Houston. He will be interred in a family plot at Coop Prairie Cemetery in his hometown of Mansfield Arkansas on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10am.
