Born July 31, 1946, in Bronx, NY, Jay was the son of the late Max and Helen Horowitz. Jay is survived by his beloved two daughters, Jennifer Hallin and Amanda Von Sehrwald, son in law, Alex Von Sehrwald, adoring two grandchildren, Spencer Hallin and Adalyn Von Sehrwald and sister, Susan Willams. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sherry Horowitz.
Jay was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Jay spent his entire professional life as a successful financial advisor. Jay had a zest for life and loved his family, food, and fun. Jay was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend. He was a loving father, who created nicknames for his children who were affectionately known as Ifer and Ascudee. Jay took great pride in being a papa to his two grandchildren, Spencer (15) and Adalyn (2). Whether it was a sporting event, chess tournament, school concert or play, birthday celebration, or just to have an open ear, Jay was always there.
During the week, Jay enjoyed spending his evenings decompressing by “surfing the net” with a cocktail and snack. On the weekends, Jay looked forward to going to the gym; then, he would meander throughout several grocery stores in search of the best food samples. Jay’s other hobbies included reading, solving puzzles (crossword and Sudoku), swimming, and walking. One of Jay’s greatest joys was traveling, taking numerous trips with his wife, daughters, grandchildren and friends.
Even as Jay battled NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus), in his final two and a half years, he made a profound and lasting impression on those around him, befriending and bringing smiles to the faces of the caregivers, his fellow residents, and the staff of his memory care facility.
Jay was truly a light to all who knew him and words cannot express how much he will be missed.
“That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.” - Jay Alan Horowitz
