Janell Gonzalez, age 92, passed away on June 2, 2022 of congestive heart failure. She was born to parents Roger and Lumae Brooks on August 7, 1929 in El Dorado, Arkansas. She and her brother Roger were raised by their loving grandparents, Daddy Ben and Granny Brooks on a small farm near Sulphur Springs, Tx. Janell remembered her childhood as wonderful. She loved school and was a cheerleader and voted Football Sweetheart by the football team. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1947. She then attended business school in Dallas, Tx.
In October, 1950 she married Don Rawlings. They moved to Houston, Tx. and raised 4 children. Janell was a stay at home mom for many years until she found an interest in real estate. She became a Texas Real Estate broker in 1966.
Janell was a sweet, gentle and non judgmental Christian woman. She taught her children to love God and believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, Houston, Tx. for many years, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, participated in Christmas pageants and mission outreach.
She loved to travel around the world. In 1970 she and her family had the opportunity to move to Paris, France for two years. She would always remember this experience as one of the highlights of her life. She loved the French culture, the wine and cuisine, the locals and the beauty of such an historic city. Her other favorite places to travel to include Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
She loved everything beautiful. She had a natural flare for decorating and wished she had become an interior designer. Her favorite colors were red and purple. She dressed and accessorized tres’ chic and was always fashion forward.
In 2004 she met Julio Gonzalez on a blind date. It was a match made in Heaven. In December, 2005 they married and spent 16 happy Golden Years together.
Janell is survived by her loving husband Julio Gonzalez and his son Michael Burnett (Sharron) and family. She is survived by daughters, Frances Wooldridge (Kent), and Ann Inman (Eddie), sons, Donald Rawlings (Julie), and Scott Rawlings (Rachel), 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She enjoyed a wonderful life of happiness, was very loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.
At her request, no service will be held. If you would like to make a donation to Janell’s favorite animal charity, you can donate to Best Friends Animal Society in her memory.
