JANE LAWRENCE KERR, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, the 22nd of May 2013, after battling the complications of Type I diabetes for over 30 years. Jane was born on the 1st of May 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Charles and Catherine Jane “Pat” Lawrence. She attended Tulane University and graduated from McNeese State University. After teaching for several years, she relocated to Houston in 1973 to join her brother, Berdon, in his business, Hollywood Marine (later Kirby Corporation), where she served as Human Resources Manager for over 25 years.
Jane is survived by her only child, daughter Patricia New Goeringer, her husband, Kurt; her beloved grandchildren, Madison Nicole “Madi” Goeringer and Kurt Alexander “Alex” Goeringer; her brother, Berdon Lawrence, his wife, Rolanette, and their children, Heather Mitchell, her husband, David; Mark Lawrence, his wife, Rachel; Charles Lawrence, his wife, Megan; seven great-nieces and nephews, all of Houston; and stepsons, Jim Kerr and Jonathan Kerr, his wife Veronica, and son, Bennett. Jane was blessed with a host of loving, loyal friends who she will miss dearly.
Her family wishes to thank her amazing care team for the last seven months: Angelia, Anaesthesia, and Abi for their love and compassionate care. We also thank her physicians at the Methodist Hospital, particularly Dr. Ashley Drews, for many years of incredible dedication.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Thursday, the 23rd of May, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
At a later date, the family is to gather for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Nothing brought Jane more joy than her grandchildren. She never missed a game or performance, no matter how big or small. She loved watching them perform on the stage and in that vein, in lieu of customary remembrances, she requested that memorial contributions be directed to The Kinkaid School, Attn: Advancement (Jane Lawrence Kerr Memorial Fund), 201 Kinkaid School Dr., Houston, TX, 77024; or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, jdrf.org, 2425 Fountain View Dr., Houston, TX, 77057.
