James Lester Weddle departed this life on December 4, 2022, in Houston, Texas. James was born on March 3, 1944, in Muskogee, OK, to Ole and Fay Weddle. James is survived by his wife, Glennie, daughter, Jeannie and her husband, John Greiner and grandchildren William and Matthew Greiner. He is survived by his sister-in-law Doris Weddle and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Ole and Fay, brothers Harold and his wife Chris and Kenneth Weddle, and in-laws Glynn and Luree Newsom.
James grew up in Muskogee as was active in Boy Scouts and Muskogee Boys and High School Choir. He was active in the family business, Weddle Food Stores, as a young boy and as an adult with his two brothers until he sold his share of the business. James served as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. James met Glennie Newsom while managing Weddle Food Store in Pryor, OK; they married on April 27, 1968. In 1971, James and Glennie moved to Houston where he worked as a Houston Chronicle Newspaper Distributor until his retirement in March 2006.
James enjoyed the outdoors and took several camping trips with his family to the local lake as well as two long trips up the West and East Coast, respectively. In 2006 he fulfilled his dream to travel to Alaska for an extended trip with his wife, Glennie. As a young man he hunted quail with his dog, Stub, in Oklahoma and loved several pets, Blackie, Hannah, Lucky, Skipper, Maggie, and Max, over his lifetime. James developed a love for fishing as a young boy with his father, Ole. He would often share stories of his childhood with his family and grandson, Matthew, on fishing trips.
He will be remembered as a loving and kind person, husband, dad, and grandpa.
Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2022 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Claire Venue, Rev. Michelle Manuel, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m., in Seale Prairie Cemetery on FM 937 in Robertson County, Pastor William Wright, officaiting.
