James Edward "Bud" McCune was born on August 21, 1921, in Minden, Texas. After graduating, he moved to Houston, where he met his wife of 69 years, Jane. He joined the Coast Guard in 1942, serving in WWII on the USS Escatawpa, where he took troops ashore in the invasion at Okinawa. After the service, he started work at Houston Electric, which later became Metro, where he worked for more than 35 years. In 1964, he and his family moved to Huffman, Texas, where he was a member of Lake Houston United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Huffman Lions Club where he served the community for over 40 years, holding many offices including District Governor and receiving numerous honors. In 2010, they moved to Boerne, Texas, where he was an active member of the Boerne Cowboy Church and the Kronkosky Senior Center. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 16, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Jane McCune; his parents: Ada and Henry J. Mayr; his sisters: Lois Garrison and Peggy Wyndham; and grandchildren: Mark and Melissa McCune. He is survived by his sons: James McCune, Jr. and wife Terri; William McCune and wife Cindy; grandchildren: Michelle McCune, Jaime Beaumont and husband Jon, Meredith McCune, and Joshua McCune; his great grandchildren: Braxton and Adalyn Beaumont; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We were all the richer for his company and will miss him greatly.
