James Wilburn Adams, “Jim,” age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. One of 11 children, he was the son of Henry Frank Adams and Maude Soape of Choice, Texas. Born on December 21, 1929, he lived for a time in Corpus Christie, Texas, before moving to Houston, where he graduated from Jeff Davis High School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy who served on the USS Toledo, Jim later worked for Armour Meat Company and Mission Manufacturing Company. He retired as an Oilfield Equipment Salesman from TRW Mission, then owned a successful appliance repair business. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Augusta “Boots” Doretta Adams. Survived by son, Richard A. Adams of Martinsville, Virginia; daughter Jan M. Adams of Spring, Texas; granddaughter Kari R. Adams of New York City, New York; grandson Philip J. Adams of Cambridge, Massachusetts; brother Osburne F. “Butch” and wife Laverne Adams of Shelbyville, Texas; and “favorite uncle” to numerous nieces and nephews. A generous spirit, Jim contributed volunteer hours and leadership to Northside National Little League, San Jacinto Girl Scouts and the Melrose Park Civic Club. Jim and Boots were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for fifty-eight years, especially involved in ministries to feed the hungry. Jim is fondly remembered by all as a loving husband, a kind and caring mentor, a compassionate neighbor and the Lord's servant who always put others' needs before his own. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. His former pastor, Lawrence Kelm, will officiate a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
