Jacquelyn Corrine Tanner (Parkin) was called to Heaven on March 24, 2017 at her home in Missouri City. She was born in Houston to Frederick Baldwin Parkin and Vivienne Lucille Parkin (Ellsworth) on May 23, 1925, one of four sisters.
She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, where she was an enthusiastic member of the Scottish Brigade. More importantly, there she met her life-long sweetheart, Harley Lynn Tanner III.
They married on July 17, 1946, and quickly started a family. Jackie was the proud mother of 3 daughters, Jackie Lynne, Freddi Lou, and Betty Ann.
She was an accomplished painter, often selling her artwork at the Westheimer Art Festival. Quilting also held her interest, and each of her children and grandchildren received one ‘made with love’ as a treasured gift.
Jackie and Harley enjoyed traveling together and joined an RV club cruising coast to coast and as far north as Alaska.
Most notably, she loved to dance. She and Harley spent many years doing the Texas Star square dance with their dancing club, sometimes with Harley as the caller.
Jackie was always a strong, faithful member of the Catholic Church, and spent many hours volunteering at her parish over the years. Most recently, she was a member at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Missouri City.
She was, perhaps, best known for her vivacious personality and would own the room when she walked in. Headstrong and energetic with the grace of a queen, she always carried her head high and her heart on her sleeve. She was dearly loved and will be missed so much by her family and friends.
She is survived by Harley, her husband of over 70 years; her oldest sister Doris Lott; her daughters Lynne Weissinger and husband Glenn, Freddi Dawson and husband Chuck, and Betty Stroder and husband Steve; 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Cookie”.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and Pets For The Elderly Foundation.
