Jack Greer Taylor Jr.

Jack Greer Taylor, Jr. passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle against heart disease. He was born November 27, 1941 to Jack G. Taylor and Mary Elisabeth Harris Taylor in Austin, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Knapp Taylor. He is also survived by his children Jack G. Taylor III and wife Martha, Kay Taylor Klumpp and husband Joel, Ann Sydney Taylor; his step-children Chelsea Megan Keeton and Elizabeth Ashley Keeton; his brothers R. Peter Taylor and James Taylor. He also had four grandchildren: Charles and Lily Taylor and Jonas and Alice Klumpp.

Jack attended the Kinkaid School and Lamar High School. He went to college at the University of Texas El Paso and then the University of Texas at Austin where he was a proud member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated in 1965 with a degree in Business. Jack then took a year to travel around the world; he received an internship at Merrill Lynch in London, and worked with other investment and business leaders in Japan and Australia.

Upon returning to Texas, he settled in Houston where he worked for Rauscher Pierce Investments for over 20 years. After many years as a top producer with Rauscher Pierce, he later started his own firm Jack Taylor and Associates, and became a registered investment advisor. He appeared on Inside Money on PBS and was interviewed for his investment expertise. At the time of his death, he was employed by ING.

Jack first and foremost loved his family. He loved to hunt doves in South Texas with his son and daughter and riding horses at his family’s ranch in Nevada. He was a passionate coach of his childrens’ sports teams. He also enjoyed his weekends on his wife’s ranch near Hempstead, where he loved to barbeque steaks, walk through the fields with Elizabeth or just look at the beautiful birds and sunsets that were all around them. Family holidays with the children and grandchildren were also a great joy. He was a member of River Oaks Country Club and Galveston Yacht Club. He had a wonderful singing voice and sang in The Church of St. John the Divine choir for several years.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 3:30 pm at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Avenue, Houston, Texas 77007.
