She was born in Kent County on April 18, 1921 to Samuel Taylor Havins and Lena Hunnicutt Havins. Iva was married to Ardouth Wayne Bateman for 63 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Troy Havins; sister, Ann Flood; husband, Wayne and grandson, Justin Eaton.
She moved from west Texas to the Houston area in the 1950’s. She was active in the Long Point Baptist Church for many years.
Iva is survived by her 7 children: Ken Bateman and wife Dottie; Karen Taylor; Kirk Bateman and wife Judy; Rod Bateman and wife Chris; Dayna Armstrong and Ram Sandoval; Doug Bateman; and Beverly Bateman; 15 grandchildren: David Bateman, Karen Lyons, Kim Steinke, Mike Bateman, Murphy Elkins, Lonnie Elkins, Heather Bateman, Kim Stephenson, John Baker, Clay Baker, Brandi Vidal, Clint Bateman, Travis Bateman, Kari Dodd and Dawn Hughes; 26 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren; and her niece Gayle Slaughter.
Iva moved to Westwood Shores, Trinity, Texas about 10 years ago and attended the First United Methodist Church.
She will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel in the Pines, Westwood Shores, Trinity, Texas on July 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm by Pastor Leroy Brown.
There will be visitation on July 30, 2016 from 9:00-10:00 am at Brookside Memorial Park, 13401 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas followed by a graveside service.
