Irene Diaz 87 passed away on May 18, 2023 due to a strong battle of cancer. Irene was born on December 15, 1935 in San Antonio, Texas to Rosendo and Aurora Jimenez Sr. She was 1 of 5 children. Irene was the only girl with 4 brothers: Rosendo Jr., Joe, Ralph, and Arthur. In 1939, she moved to Houston, Texas where she began her journey. At the age of 16, Irene met the love of her life, Alfred B. Diaz Sr. A few years later they married on June 2, 1952.
Irene was an amazing housewife and a loving mother of 8. Irene surrounded her life around her children, grandchildren, and church family. Irene was a member of El Taberniculo Tab Church for many years until she could no longer attend. Her proudest achievements were her roses, plants, flowers, rose arch, and walkway porch. Irene was a very caring and sincere person but also very independent and out spoken as she would say, “I tell it like it is.” Irene loved spending time with God, reading her Bible, and she loved the fact that she had 5 generations. She also loved her fur babies, J.J and Kitty Kat. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and watching her soap operas and shows: Family Feud, Maury, and Steve Wilkos, and reading the Houston Chronicle.
Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, her children; Alfred, Anthony, and Rosie; her parents Rosendo and Aurora; her maternal grandmother, Lupie Ortega; and all 4 brothers. She is survived by her daughters Betty Jean (Tony) Flores, Cynthia Munoz, Catalina Louise Vela; sons Jeremy (Jackie) and Raymond Diaz; 54 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, 200 great-great-grandchildren, over 200 great-great-great grandchildren, and best friend Mrs. Nell Johnson.
A special thank you to her granddaughter, Gloria Escobar Diaz.
